Six Horses Come Home

 

We have had the opportunity to celebrate the Year of the Horse in a BIG way.

On Friday, February 27, six new horses arrived at Horses of Tir Na Nog. The horses came from a local rescue that closed. The arrivals included one Appendix Quarter Horse gelding, a paint gelding, a fearful mare, a 31 year-old retired racehorse, an 11 year-old Thoroughbred mare with a history of lameness, and a 10 year-old paint pony with hock issues.

Over the last ten years, we have served as a safety net for horses in the care of more than five local rescues closing their doors. This is the largest intake of horses from a rescue we have ever received.

All of these horses were considered unadoptable. Many of the horses have medical conditions or are older, requiring specialized care. The fearful mare’s feet are extremely overgrown, and she will need farrier care as well as patient, gentle training.

With determination and love, these horses will be able to thrive at our safe haven.

We are so excited to get to know each of the horses who have become a member of the Horses of Tir Na Nog family. It is very special that they have arrived at the beginning of the Lunar Year of the Horse.

The characteristics of the Horse are bravery, confidence, and freedom. This year is specifically the Year of the Fire Horse, which represents passion and transformation.

We are honored to be able to provide care for these horses and to welcome them to their forever home. We were able to say yes to these at-risk horses because of YOUR SUPPORT! The acceptance of six additional horses is a significant financial commitment for Horses of Tir Na Nog.  In addition to daily hay, grains and dietary supplements, on-going costs will be incurred for veterinary care, medications and farrier care.

We are so pleased to announce sponsorships have been received for two of these new arrivals.   With these sponsorships, the 11 year-old thoroughbred mare has been named in honor of Kathy, a deeply missed friend of Horses of Tir Na Nog from the Remiatte Foundation.  And, the mare’s 10 year-old paint pony and best friend has been named Tammy, in honor of the other half of this dynamic duo from the Remiatte Foundation. We are so appreciative to the Remiatte Foundation for sponsoring these two horses, and we are proud to name these beautiful horses after two extraordinary women.

The three geldings in this group of new arrivals are still in need of sponsorship.  Please consider becoming a sponsor to help us provide them with quality feed and medical care.  Full Sponsorship is $3,000 annually.  This level of sponsorship includes both Feed Sponsorship ($1,000) and Veterinary Care Sponsorship ($2,000.)  Full Sponsorships include the opportunity to provide the horse a new forever home name.
