Sky
Gender: Gelding
Breed: American Paint Horse
Approximate Date of Birth: 1/1/2005
Sponsor:On August 17, 2017 County of San Diego Department of Animal Services seized seven horses as part of an ongoing animal neglect case in the East County. Fortunately, when the horses were made available for adoption, the local equine community stepped up and adopted four of the horses. That left three horses in need of a special place to call home.
One was a newly gelded stallion. Sky is a striking Overo Paint horse. However, as a stallion it was unlikely that he had ever been ridden, which most adopters are looking for. While not aggressive, he was anxious and worried at the shelter, making him difficult to handle. In addition, he has clubbed feet and structural issues in his hind legs, which are a bit too straight in the hocks. During his time at the shelter, a diastolic heart murmur was detected while he was at rest, with an unknown effect on his exercise tolerance.
We were honored to offer him a soft landing place after his rescue, along with Curo, the senior mare he lived with and Stellabella, his daughter.
