Rose (Nantucket Rose)
Gender: Mare
Breed: American Paint Horse
Approximate Date of Birth: 1/1/2003
Sponsor: Genesis 1:24-25Rose is a PMU foal, a biproduct of the Premarin industry in Canada. She was originally rescued by a horse-lover in Florida. She was named “Nantucket Rose,” because of the work her first owner did in Nantucket one summer to earn enough money to rescue her. Sadly, the ranch where her first owner was boarding Rose was sold and she could no longer afford to keep her. Eventually she came to be part of our little herd. Rose is a medicine hat paint and has two crystal blue eyes that match the color of San Diego’s skys on a clear summer day. As beautiful as she is on the outside, Rose’s true beauty comes from within. She has a very gentle soul and loves to spend quiet time with people and her horse companions. Ironically, her first owner had started her training using operant conditioning with positive reinforcement. Although we didn’t discover this until after Rose had transferred to us, it confirmed that Horses of Tir Na Nog was the perfect fit for her. The efforts to start her under this technique have provided Rose with a sound, positive foundation as we continue her training.

Little Christmas, also known as The Epiphany, is celebrated on January 6th. To celebrate, we’d welcome your help to fund a night and rain shed for our new little O’hana piggies.
Thanks to your incredible generosity, we have made our $55,000 Year-End Match. That means you have raised $110,000 for our sanctuary. We are beginning 2026 with crucial funds for the care of our ranch residents.
