Doc is most-likely the oldest resident at the ranch. This red roan quarter horse came to us in October 2018. Once at the ranch, he lived alone because we didn’t have a good roommate for him that was on a 100% pellet diet. So, the Doc we knew stood around a lot and took a lot of naps. That all changed in 2019 when we moved him in with “da boyz,” our gelding group. He became much more active and playful. We are so happy to have found this solution for him. We manage his special dietary needs by closing him into a dining suite during meals.
We also learned that Doc is an expert gate-opener. Thanks to his remarkable skills, “da boyz” have had a number of adventures around the ranch. We now double chain their gates to prevent further adventures, but Doc generally checks the gates every time someone goes in or out of his corral. As a result of aging, his teeth no longer line up to keep his tongue in. So, Doc’s “Tongue Out Tuesdays” are usually every day. But if this is Doc’s worst issue at his age, we’re pretty happy!
