In April 2024, County of San Diego Department of Animal Services contacted us with a request to take in a twenty-six-year-old gelding that was part of a long-term neglect case. The case involved three horses, but this appaloosa was in need of a sanctuary placement. The other two horses ended up at a rescue where they will find forever homes once they have completely recovered from their neglect.
The appaloosa arrived on April 24. He has vision loss in his left eye, skin issues and confirmational issues. But he is sweet and friendly, and very interested in meeting the other horses. After completing quarantine, he has moved in with “da Boyz,” a gelding group led by Twister.
As shown in his arrival photos compared to ones taken just six weeks later, this handsome boy is thriving on his new diet.
We are so happy with how he is doing, but he has yet to find a sponsor and without a sponsor, he is still awaiting a forever name too!
We are so happy that this boy has secured a generous sponsor, and now has a name: Chocolate Chip. He is named for the dark spots in his blanket, but also for his “oh, so sweet” personality. His sponsor might also know that our team has a real weakness for chocolate chip cookies.
Horses of Tir Na Nog and our horses are so grateful for generosity of our sponsors, donors and volunteers. Your support makes it possible to take in such horses as Chocolate Chip and ensure they receive compassionate care in their new forever home. Thank you!
