If Return to Freedom American Wild Horse Sanctuary had not stepped in to help, she would certainly have been bought by a slaughter industry’s kill buyer, which means her nightmare would have been only beginning. Return to Freedom asked Horses of Tir Na Nog to provide a safe and loving home for her.
The mare was named “Ruckus” by the brand inspector who worked so hard to save her. The name reflected the ruckus that her heartbreaking story had created. But when she arrived at Horses of Tir Na Nog, we knew that her name was incomplete. We needed to recognize the extraordinary compassion and commitment tht the brand inspector had shown to rescue this horse. So this special girl became “Deveny’s Ruckus,” in honor of the brand inspector who cared enough to keep her out of the slaughter sale.
When she arrived at Horses fo Tir Na Nog on July 11, 2009, she was a frightened two year old. Her natural curiosity started bringing her closer to people right away. We are confident that Deveny’s Ruckus will learn to trust again and will soon be vying with the other horses at the ranch for love, attention, and carrots!
