Celebrating Seven Years of Mustangs
Horses of Tir Na Nog is celebrating San Diego’s only mustang herd with a fundraiser on Saturday, August 17 at the Kings Inn in Mission Valley.
“Seven years ago the first members of our mustang herd arrived at the ranch. County of San Diego Department of Animal Services had rescued then from terrible neglect,” explained Amy Pat Rigney, Administrator of Horses of Tir Na Nog. “In 2013 our herd grew by one with the birth of Sinya. Last August ten additional members of the original herd were reunited with our seven, a reunion six years in the making. As with the original six members, these ten arrived emaciated. In January of this year an additional fifteen arrived and on April 8, the herd grew by one with the birth of HeNilk. Today the herd is thriving.”
Horses of Tir Na Nog is the longest-operating equine sanctuary in San Diego County and is currently caring for over ninety equines, including the mustang herd. Horses of Tir Na Nog is an adoption partner with County of San Diego Department of Animal Services and works in compliance with American Association of Equine Practitioners (AAEP) Rescue and Retirement Guidelines. Horses of Tir Na Nog is a community-supported equine sanctuary that offers a safe-haven to horses with few options remaining, thereby ensuring them a better quality of life.
